Peggy’s Violin: A Butterfly in Time tells the fascinating true story of the life of Peggy Hills’ little Giovanni Grancino violin from its “birthplace” 300 years ago in Milan, Italy to present day. The journey of the “little butterfly” violin features music by composers such as Bach, Vivaldi, Haydn, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Mozart.

Our story begins in 1702 and ends at the very moment it is being told! The butterfly violin is one of the violins heard on this recording and is often played by Peggy Hills. It may not be the most expensive or incredible violin in the world, but it is a wonderful instrument. Peggy’s violin is very dear to her and goes everywhere she does. She has recounted parts of its story to her students many times over the past thirty years, but working with Barbara York in 1998 made it come alive for her in a new way. Now she wants to share her “little butterfly” violin and its story with you so that you can experience her journey.
